A late bloomer academically, the turning point for Helmy Rozaimi Husaimi came after he completed his National Service after graduating from ITE Bishan with poor results.

It was when he was working at the Marks & Spencer boutique that he met colleagues who advised him to continue with his studies at ITE. He took their advice seriously, and with the encouragement from his parents, friends and ITE lecturers, he enrolled himself in the Nitec in Security Technology course.

There was no looking back. Two years later, things took a complete turnaround.

Helmy did so well that he made it to the Director's List and the Rotary-ITE Excellence Award, and was the Valedictorian for the School of Electronics & Info-Comm. Technology, among other awards.

From failing his "N" levels, he graduated with a GPA score of 3.71. He was equally prominent in his Co-Curricular Activities at ITE. Apart from being the President of the Service Ambassadors Club and Senior Coordinator for the Vibes Live Band Club, he was actively championing the Green cause as the Eco Green representative of the CW Green Club.

"It was a bit tough for me to juggle both CCAs and community work at the same time," admitted Helmy recently. "But I planned my schedules every week and my CCA advisers were also very supportive and understanding."

"I was lucky my schedules for CCAs and studies did not clash often, so that went well for me. I graduated in January 2013 and I still go back to ITE to help out with some of the activities because it is worth my time."

He is ever thankful for the opportunities which ITE gives for students to discover and nurture their talents, and credits his supporters for not giving up on him.

"Take a closer look around you," Helmy advises ITE students. "The environment and facilities say it all. ITE gives its students motivation to study and opportunities to be at their best. Commit to ITE fully and you will not regret it for the rest of your life."

He adds, "People may talk nonsense about ITE - that it stands for 'It's The End'. However, I can tell you with 100% confidence that most ITE graduates really think that the two years of ITE life are the best."

Helmy is now studying IT Service Management at Republic Polytechnic.
