Public Spiritedness Award 2016

Vance Sim, a Higher Nitec Electrical Engineering student, received the Public Spiritedness Award from SCDF. On 22 Sep 2016, he was alerted via the myResponder App and rushed to the aid of an unconscious man to whom Vance administered CPR, before the arrival of SCDF. His action contributed to the return of man's pulse in hospital. Vance was also awarded the Certificate of Commendation by ITE College West.

Sembcorp-EMA Energy Challenge 2016

Sembcorp-EMA Energy Challenge is competition that is jointly organised by Sembcorp Industries and Energy Market Authority (EMA). It main objective is to provide an insight into life as a power engineer and the energy market industries through a game setting, incorporating haze condition and other natural disasters. A team of Higher Nitec Electrical Engineering students participated in the game, and won 2nd Prize.

Singapore Amazing Machine 2016

A team of Higher Nitec Mechanical Engineering students won The Creative Machine Award under Category C (IP 5-6, Junior Colleges, Polytechnics, and ITEs). For the competition, students used recycled materials and applied physics concepts, engineering techniques & technology to burst a balloon and remove cardboard from a flat surface.

A team of Higher Nitec Mechatronics Engineering students won the Merit Award for their project "Fish Slicing Machine". The project provides a more effective & efficient approach of slicing fishes for feeding of animals in the Wildlife Reserve Singapore.

  International

Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2015

Team EcoTraveller from ITE College West participated in the annual SHELL Eco-Marathon Asia, which was held in Feb 2015, at Manila, Philippines. Over 120 teams from 17 countries took part. The event challenges students around the world to design, build, and test vehicles that travel further using less energy. Team EcoTraveller did very well and finished 3rd Position in the Battery Electric Prototype Category clocking 324km/kWh, almost equivalent to driving up and down the Pan Island Expressway eight times - using just one kilowatt (about $0.22) of electrical energy. This latest mileage is a 49 per cent improvement from 2014, when it placed fifth.

China Skills Competition 2015

 China Skills Competition is an annual invitational competition involving students from China, and other ASIAN/ASEAN countries, such as South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia. Each team comprises of two student competitors, a Coach and a Team Leader. The team attended training as part of competition preparation, followed by a Competition held at Shandong Weifang Vocational College. Two first year students from Higher Nitec Mechatronics Engineering won First Placing under "Yalong Cup Automation Production Line Installation & Testing" competition".

Four students from School of Engineering, namely, Muhammad Khairil Bin Mohamed Rais, Mohamed Imran Bin Mohameed Baharudin, Aidil Malik Bin Mazlan and Suffian Alfiq Bin Noor Alfian were awarded the Home Award 2015.

HDB Good Neighbour Project 2015

A team of 27 Higher Nitec Electrical Engineering students participated in HDB Good Neighbor Project 2015, and won the Outstanding Project under Post-Secondary category. This project, organised for the residents of Choa Chu Kang, aims to help residents forge neighborly friendship and build closer bonds, through engaging activities, such as, baking, fun games and coloring contest.

Energy Innovation Challenge 2015

Three teams of students from School of Engineering participated in the Energy Innovation Challenge 2015. Their projects "Solar Sheet Ventilation", "Vegetable Washing System" and "Fish Slicing Machine" won 1st Prize, 3rd Prize and Merit Award respectively.

Lee Kuan Yew Technology Award

Three Higher Nitec Electrical Engineering students won Lee Kuan Yew Technology Award 2015 for their project "Harvest Today's Rainwater for Tomorrow". The project aims to reach the rate of global warming by implementing a system where solar power and hydroelectric would work together, with the usage of rainwater, sunlight and free space on rooftops. Their project also won the "Most Popular Award".

A team of Higher Nitec Mechanical Engineering students won Lee Kuan Yew Technology Award 2015 for their project "Coffee Bean Separator". The project uses rotating cylinder with sprockets to effectively and efficiently separate the coffee beans at 60oC.

A team of Higher Nitec Mechatronics Engineering students won the Lee Kuan Yew Technology Award 2015 for their project "Shower Reminder". The project helps to remind users during showering, should the water usage exceeded a pre-determined amount.

International

Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2014

The annual SHELL ECO Marathon was held in Feb 2014, at Manila, Philippines. The event challenges students around the world to design, build, and test vehicles that travel further using less energy. Two teams from ITE College West participated in this year event and done ITE proud. Team iTErbo3 finished 1st position in the Urban Concept Battery Electric Category, while Team EcoTraveller clinched 5th position in the Prototype Battery Electric category.

Green Wave Environmental Care Projects for School 2014

The Green Wave Environmental Care Projects for School is an annual competition organised by Sembawang Shipyard. The event aims to involve the community at large, particularly the students, to participate in learning about caring, protecting, maintaining and positively utilising our environment so that individually and together, everyone can contribute towards the conservation and improvement of our environment for Singapore's Sustainable Development. It is hoped that this project will set students on a life-long interest and concern for the environment and motivate them to participate actively in protecting and improving the quality of our environment, thus contributing to the development of a better future for theirs and subsequent generations. This year, ITE College West achieved an excellent harvest, winning 8 Awards in the Junior College, Centralised Institutes and ITEs category. The winning projects are:

WorldSkills Singapore 2014

WorldSkills Singapore (WSS) is a national-wide skills competition to select Singaporean youths who excel in technical skills to represent Singapore at the International WorldSkills Competition (WSC). The WSS 2014 Finals was held at ITE College Central from 10 to 12 July 2014. The competitors' technical knowledge and skills were assessed through their demonstration of precision, functionality, finishing and quality of workmanship of their projects and economic use of materials. After 3 days of hard work, Marcus Lim Yew Kiat, who represented ITE in the Industrial Control trade area, won the Silver Medal.

Singapore Amazing Machine Competition 2014

The annual Singapore Amazing Machine Competition (SAMC) was held in Aug 2014, at Singapore Science Centre. The event is jointly organized by Defence Science Organisation, National Laboratories, Science Centre Singapore, and School of Science and Technology. The SAMC is a science competition in which teams dream up and construct a complex machine that performs a seemingly simple task, in as many steps as possible. A team students from the Mechanical Engineering course, done ITE proud by clinching 2nd Position in the Category C, for IP 5-6, Junior Colleges, Polytechnics, and ITEs.

The Clean and Green Singapore Schools' Carnival 2014

The annual Clean and Green Singapore Schools' Carnival was held at ITE College Central from 4 to 5 Nov 2014. Ms Grace Fu, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Environment and Water Resources, as well as Foreign Affairs, was the Guest-of-Honour. Under the Corporate and School Partnership Program (CASP), students Gay Bin Shuen and Fatimah Raiza N Dawami from Mechatronics Engineering course, won 1st Prize in the JC/ITE category. The winning project, "Air-powered Transporter", moves people and heavy goods from one place to another, thereby reducing the needs for labour in the process.

Changing the Game 2014 

Changing the Game (CtG) is an energy policy making game based on the South East Asia region which was held in conjunction with the Energy Forum 2014, organized by EMA at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre on 6 June 2014. The aim of the game is to redesign our energy landscape for 2030, using cleaner energy sources, while educating players about the complexities faced in energy planning. Two Higher Nitec Electrical Engineering students, Muhammad Ramdhan Syah and Abdul Qadir, won the "The Best Government Award" and "The Best Citizen Award" under the ITE Category.

Good Neighbor Project 2014

The Good Neighbor Project 2014 was organized by Housing Development Board (HDB) to promote good neighborliness between residents. Team SOC (Serving Our Community), comprises of 15 students from Higher Nitec Electrical Engineering, emerged both the "Outstanding" and "Most Popular" Project Awards. The award-winning project, aims to bring Choa Chu Kang residents together through fun games. The games, such as Cans-Knockout, Customised Good Neighbor Board Game, Five Stones, "Chapteh" and Bottle Rings, bought back fond memories for many of the residents.

Singapore International Water Festival 2014

The bi-annual Singapore International Water Festival 2014 was held in June 2014, at the Singapore Marina Barrage. The event challenges our staff & students to design, build, and paddle the Raft to the finished line with only three rowers on board the Raft. ITE College West, Team 'BUTTERFLIES', came in 2nd position in the Most Innovative Raft category.

Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors Award (TKKYIA) 2014

Two Higher Nitec Electrical Engineering students, Tan Jin Hui and Muhammad Haziq B Kamaruzaman, won the Commendation Award (Student Category), at the annual Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors' Award (TKKYIA) Competition, held on 17 May 2014, at the Singapore Science Centre.

Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) Gold Medal 2014

Ms Yeo Hui Ling, a graduate from Higher Nitec in Electrical Engineering course, was awarded the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) Gold Medal 2014. The LKY Gold Medals are awarded to the top graduate of each ITE College, who has excelled in their course of study and co-curricular activities, and made contributions to enriching college life. Hui Ling scored a perfect GPA of 4.0. She believes that a renewed interest in her studies could be one of the tipping points for her excellent results, thanks to her Course Manager, Ms Chan Lay Lee, who shared inspiring stories of past outstanding graduates. Currently, Hui Ling is pursuing her Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Singapore Polytechnic, through a second-year direct entry admission.

IES Engineering Award 2014

Tan Kah Wee, a graduate of Higher Nitec in Mechatroncis Engineering course, won the Instutition of Engineers, Singapore (IES) Engineering Award 2014. The IES Engineering Award is awarded to a top ITE graduate for outstanding performance in an Engineering course, and contributions in Engineering-related projects and activities. Previously, a Nitec in Mechatronics graduate, Kah Wee scored a perfect GPA of 4.0 in Higher Nitec course. His life motto is to give his best in everything he does, and he hopes that his achievements will be a source of encouragement and motivation to his peers. Kah Wee is currently a first-year Singapore polytechnic student pursuing a Diploma in Mechatronics and Robotics.

H2O Football Tournament 2014

A team of Higher Nitec Electrical Engineering students emerged as Champion at the H-TWO-O Football tournament, held at ITE College Central . After 90 minutes, the score was 0-0 and the team won in the penalty shoot out 10-9. Student, Sankara from Class EE2N was  selected as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and won a free trip to Spain  to watch Real Madrid train and play in a competitive match.

Lee Kuan Yew Technology Award 2014

A team of 2 students from Higher Nitec Mechatronics Engineering, Tan Kah Wee and Ng Jun Wei, won the Lee Kuan Yew Technology Award, with their project Reptile Egg Incubator. This project, in collaboration with Singapore Zoo, involves the incubation strategy of enhancing temperature stability and humidity, incorporating an automatic air-exchange system to improve air circulation and ventilation. The first incubation trial was carried out in the Singapore Zoo on 10 July 2013. To-date, 18 Malayan Terrapins was successfully hatched from the clutch of eggs.

ITE ART SHOW CANNED FOOD SCULPTURE COMPETITION 2014

The ITE Art Show 2014 was held in ITE College Central from 14 to 16 Aug 2014. The event aims to provide ITE students with a platform to express themselves creatively through the design and construction of a canned food sculpture. A team of students from the Higher Nitec Electrical Engineering course, namely; Ina Liyana Bte Sapari, Nur Hazirah Fitri Bte Salleh, Sheik Umar Mukh Tar Bin Sheik I and Muhd Syafiq Bin Zaini won a prize worth of $300 vouchers.

Two Mechatronics Engineering students clinched Consolation Award under "Yalong Cup Automation Production Line Installation & Testing" competition and 2nd place under the "Qi Cheng Poweron Engineering Practice Innovation International Challenge".

AEC (Alternative Energy Car) Challenge Solar Prix

A team of Mechatronic Engineering students emerged as Champion (Team SUNPOWER) in the fastest car race for the "Tertiary Category". A 2nd team (Team TIGRA) won 1st runner-up in the fastest car race for the "Tertiary Category" and 2nd prize in the "Most Environmental Themed" Car.

Bayor Yong Environment Envoy (BYEE) Award

Two students, namely; Gabriel Toh Ghim Hsiang from Electrical Engineering and Liew Yi Rui from Mechanical Engineering, took part in the competition. Gabriel led a team of 2 fellow classmates to develop G3 (Go Green Game) to educate and provide awareness in ways to conserve energy, use environmental friendly product and find what are alternative ways to produce energy without using our natural resources.  He emerged as one of top 3 who won the BYEE Award to go for prestigious Germany training trip in Nov 2013.

Seven Electrical Engineering students were given book prizes at the ITE College West Graduation Ceremony, of which, 4 book prizes were given by Singapore Power and 3 were given by ABB.  Eight students from Electrical Technology (Light & Sound) were awarded book prizes, 2 from Total Solutions, 3 from Sennheiser and 3 from Yamaha Asia Music. 

 

CD Lionhearters Awards

Two CD Lionhearters from Facility Management & Engineering won the Outstanding CD Lionheaters Award, for their outstanding contributions. In addition, one CD Lionhearter won the CD Lionheaters Bursary Award.

Clean and Green School Carnival

A team of Mechatronics Engineering students won CASP Award for their project "Green Promoter".

 

EMA Energy Connect (Changing The Game)

A team of Electrical Engineering students won "The Best Region" Team Award, and under individual award category, Marcus Lim and Jason Ker won the Best NGO stakeholder Award and the Best Industry Award respectively.

Students from Mechatronics Engineering won four awards, namely; 2nd prize for project 'Butterfly Conservatory Unit" (joint-project between School of Engineering and School of Electronics & IT); Special Merit Award for project "Using Wick System/capillary Action of Soil and Recycled Containers to Grow Plants"; Encouragement Award for project "Diverting rain Water into Storage Tank"; and student Chua Zhi Zhou Mathew won the "Good Presenter Award".

In recognition of ITE College's West contribution in the setting-up of ITE-CD Lionhearters Club in 2011, and the CD Lionhearters have been actively providing first aid training, alongside SCDF personnel, during their Emergency  Preparedness (EP) days, ITE College West was awarded the National CSSP Award 2012 under School/Youth category.

 

National Junior Robotics Competition (NJRC)

A team of students from Mechanical Engineering won the "3rd Best Research Award" under the Tertiary Category.

 

National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA)

A total of 54 students from School of Engineering achieved the NYAA (Gold, Silver & Bronze) Award.

Shawn Teo Jia Ming from Electrical Engineering won Silver Medal in Industrial Control, Muhd Ruszaini Bin Abdul Rahman from Automotive Technology won a Bronze Medal in Automotive Technology, Tham Ai Jia from Electrical Engineering won a Medallion for Excellence for Information Network Cabling.

Asean Skills Competition - 2010
3 students selected to represent Singapore in the ASEAN Skills Competition2010 held in Thailand in the Air-conditioning trade area.
1 LKY project team won the the ITE Alumni Outstanding Project Award.
1 LKY project team won the ITE College Central Innovation Award.

Staff achievement
Mr Goh Leng Choon ( SH/EE2/CW) was awarded Outstanding Facilitator. 

Miss Winna Chia (LT/EE3/CW) was awarded Staff Appreciation Award (Student Development).

Mr Kwek Juan Chee ( Team Leader-SURGE)) was awarded Outstanding Leader. 

Awarded the MOE Innovation Grant Fund Project ($0.5 million) entitled Green Energy Mobile Office/School (GEMOS).

Shell-Eco Marathon Cars (Fuel Cell & Solar Cell cars) will be taking part in Sepang International Circuit (KL, Malaysia in July 2010). 

Student achievement
2 COM awards were received by CW Electrical Technology (Lighting & Sound) students in Dec 2009 exams series. 

 1 COM award were received by CW Electrical Technology (Power & Control) for the March 2010 exam series.

 1 Gold Course Medalist awarded to CW CW Electrical Technology (Lighting & Sound) student in 2010.

15 out of 19 COM awards were received by CW Electrical Engineering students in March 2009 exams series.
All 3 course medals (Gold, Silver & Bronze) went to our students in March 2009 exams series.

5 students (3 teams) took part in 2009 Omron-ITE musical fountain PLC programming competition at College East and all of them won. They were awarded with 1st, 3rd and merit awards.

Lighting & Sound technical crew support for major school events:
1) Five-to-One Torch Relay Event at the new CCK campus.
2) CW Roadshow at Balestier campus.
3) 2010 Orientation Program at Ang Mo Kio Campus.

2nd prize in Mayor's InnoBiz Award 2006 (North East Innovative Product Award) Open Category - 'Mozzie Shut Out' - Automotive Technology (Nitec).

4 students participated in 16th Singapore Inter-School Micromouse competition organised by Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Jul 2006. Won 4 awards including 1 champion and 3 runner-ups prizes in the Open and JC/ITE categories.

4 Students won 2nd prize of $300 and the Most Practical solution award of $50 in the Solar City Competition, ITE/Secondary Schools category, held in Nov 2006 by NEA as part of the Clean & Green Week 2006.

 Inter-ITE College Enterprise Competition 2006 in the Creative Business Plan category – 3rd prize in the finals in Mar 06.

Shell LiveWIRE Inter - ITE College Business Strategy Game Competition 2006 on 17 Nov 06 and came in 6th position amongst 30 participating teams.

The hybrid team, Forca, consists of four staff and five students, led by Sumarni Bte Selamat participated at the NIQC at SPRING Singapore in Mar 06 and won the SILVER award.

Singapore Robotics Games 2006 (21 Mar 06) - MCE/DR team came in First Runner’s Up in the Autonomous Sumo Robot event at the Singapore Robotics Games 2006. The team is guided by Mr Stephen Chan.

NIQC (23 Mar 06) - Team “JUST4US” was awarded Gold in the NIQC 2006 for their project ‘To better manage the usage of laboratory and classroom keys’.

Waste to Wow competition (Apr 06) - This is a recycling competition jointly organized by Ricoh Asia Pacific Pte Ltd and the Green Volunteers Network and supported by the National Environment Council. The results:

One team clinched second prize ($3,000 & trophy). Supervised by Mr Ahmad Soribah.

Two teams clinched merit prizes ($100 each).Supervised by Mr Hoo Pek Teng.

Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors' Award 2006 (27 May 06) - The project "The Smart Keypress" clinched the Commendation award in the Open Section of the Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors' Award 2006. The project team was supervised by Mr Tay Khee Wee and Mr Poh Tian Seng.


Underwater Robotics Competition 2006 (18 May 06) - The Underwater Robotics Competition was held as part of the international Oceans 2006 Conference on 18 May 2006. The event attracted twelve teams from the universities, Polytechnics, Junior Colleges and ITE College West. The results are:

One team (Atlantis) clinched 3rd prize ($250 + Plague). Supervised by Mr Stephen Chan and Mr Hoo Pek Teng

One team (Nemo) clinched 7th prizes ($140). Supervised by Mr Stephen Chan and Mr Hoo Pek Teng

SPH Foundation Solar Innovations 2006 (Jun 06) - The MCE Team “Conserver” clinched the consolation prize of $100 in this competition. The wind and solar powered koi pond project was submitted for the Damage Control category of this competition. The team was supervised by Mr Stephen Chan and Mr Hoo Pek Teng.
 
Enviro-Innovate Project Competition (Nov 06) - The project “Solar Powered Car Air-Conditioner” came in First Runner-Up in the open Category.This competition is organized by the National Environment Agency to raise awareness in environmental sustainability. The project is supervised by Mr Tay Khee Wee and Mr Poh Tian Seng.
 
“We Do It The Green Way” competition (Nov 06) - The project “Solar & Wind Powered Koi Pond" won the First Prize in this event. This competition is organized by ITE Environmental Management Committee (EMC) to showcase the innovation “green” ideas or practices that staff have implemented in their work area that result in significant difference or impact to both ITE and our environment. This project was supervised by Mr Hoo Pek Teng and Mr Stephen Chan.

Darin Cheong won the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal Award in ITE Graduation Ceremony 2006.

2006 Inter-ITE College Enterprise Competition (10 Mar 06) - The project "Smart Keypress" won the third prize in the Innovative Product Category. The team called “KeyTracker” was guided by Mr Tay Khee Wee & Mr Poh Tian Seng.

Two teams won the commendation award in Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors’ Award under the School Category.

One team won the consolation prize in the NECDC Mayor’s Innobiz Award.

On 12 Mar 06, 3 groups of 4 students each, participated in the ‘The Fun-tastic 4 Sports Challenge & Telematch’ organized by SWCDC at Jurong East Sports & Cultural Centre Field and one group, KE0501J, won the first runner-up prize of $600.

2 students, Yang Feng and Muhd Hyder Bin Raman, both from KE0501N, attended the Worldview Youth Conference 2006 which comprises a 2 days’ team building event at CDANS (11 & 12 Mar 06), 1 week’s of attachment (13 to 17 Mar 06) and the seminar itself on 26 Mar 06. The organizer is SWCDC.
CW Wushu team under the charge of Mr Guo Charng Haw, LT/EC/BB, achieved the following results in the Singapore National Wushu Championships 2006:-Goh Hong Mun (EC/Dover)-Bronze Medal in Traditional Nan Quan (Male) ;Sahal Hammaadi (Automotive/Balestier)- 5th in Chang Quan (Male), 7th in Spear (Male).
