Student Achievements

World Skills Singapore 2016

Held from 7 - 9 July, 12 students from ITE participated in the following Skills Areas : Cooking, Industrial Control, IT Network Systems, Mechatronics, Mobile Robotics and Restaurant Service. 

Our heartiest congratulations to the following students from SOH who attained medals.
  • Gold Medal : Kimberly Chng and Zahirah Zainol, Nitec in Food & Beverage Operations
  • Medallion for Excellence : Soh Wei Siang, Nitec in Food & Beverage Operations
  • Silver Medal : Muhammad Teo Lutfi, Nitec in Western Culinary Arts
  • Bronze Medal : Noel Phua Jia Jin, Nitec in Asian Culinary Arts


International Science Enterprise Challenge (ISEC) 2016

The ISEC is a major innovation, enterprise and applied science competition organised by the Singapore Science Centre, Singapore Management University and Young Entrepreneur Centre where youths aged 16-19 years old in Singapore and other countries participate in. 

One of our 2nd year Higher Nitec in Hospitality Operations students, Clyfton Khoo Hong Kai teamed up with students from other Polytechnics and IHLs to complete a learning journey and a 24 hour challenge which required their team to make a prototype and a business plan for a commercially viable product or service to meet the mobility needs for the Elderly and Disable community. Clyfton and team's innovative idea of a height adjustable walking stick with collapsible seat function won them the 1st place in this competition and securing the privilege to represent Singapore at the international challenge taking place in June.



Food and Hotel Asia (FHA) Culinary Challenge 2016

One of FHA's most exhilirating event, FHA Culinary Challenge saw 817 competitors, a mix of both young and established chefs from arounf the world participating at its 2016 edition. After the intense four days cook-offs, winners were crowned. One worthy mention is that, one of our Western Culinary lecturer, Jessica Tan clinched the Gold Medal in the individual category :Field and Forest. Our students definitely did not disappoint as well! Our heartfelt congratulations to the staff and students for their achievements.

World Skills Sao Paulo 2015

Held every two years, the WorldSkills Competition is the world's largest professional education event. Competitors from over 50 countries and regions in the Americas, Europe, Asia, South Pacific and Africa simulate real work challenges that must be completed to international standards of quality. They demonstrate individual and collective technical skills to perform specific tasks for each of the professional skills.

Two of our students Loh Fook Lee and Farisha Dhamiera Bohari represented Singapore in their Service Areas (Cooking and Restaurant Service respectively) and earned their well deserved Medallions of Excellence.

Singapore Signature Food Challenge 2015 (in conjunction with SG50)

Singapore's finest young chefs compete on local cuisines in inaugural Singapore Signature Food Challenge. 15 teams from 6 culinary institutions competed at the Grand Finals officiated by Guest-of-Honour, Mayor of Southwest District, Ms Low Yen Ling on 21 March. The panel of Judges comprised of Chief Judge, Mr KF Seetoh and renown Chefs and Bloggers. Our Nitec in Asian Culinary Arts team and Technical DIploma in Culinary Arts team emerged as the 1st Runner-Up and 3rd Runner-Up respectively.  Congratulations to our students!

1st Runner-Up: Team MFL (Marcus Tan and Loh Fook Lee from ITE)

2nd Runner-Up: Team KL (Kelvin Ng and Lisa Tang from Temasek Polytechnic)

3rd Runner-Up: Team Asian Persuasion (Kevin Chew and Ng Cong Ren from ITE)

nEbO Project Bake-Off 2014

In the nEbO Project Bake-Off Competition this year, our three student teams from Nitec in Pastry & Baking had done us proud in beating six other teams from Singapore Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic and Secondary Schools to wipe out the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. The competitors were required to create a plated dessert with a theme "Creation With Love" and finally completing it with a Mystery Black Box component which was provided only at the very last minute of the challenge. The industry judges were very impressed with our student competitors' technical skills and passion. Our heartiest congratulations to the students!

10th ASEAN Skills Competition Hanoi, 2014

Team Singapore, comprising 35 ITE Competitors, flew Singapore's flag high at the 10th ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC) when they pitted their skills against almost 260 youths from the nine other ASEAN countries at this year's ASC. Our boys from Nitec in Asian Culinary Arts, Loh Fook Lee and Nik Muhammad Amirul Hakim Bin Suraini did us proud by wining a Bronze Medal and Medallion Of Excellence in the Cooking Category.

 The Nitec in Food & Beverage Operations students, Tan Kwang Sheng and Farisha Dhamiera Bte Bohari also brought home the glory by winning one Gold Medal and a Medallion of Excellence in the Restaurant Service Category.



Gordon Ramsay First Intern Challenge 2014

In a showdown that is reminiscent of MasterChef, four culinary talents in Singapore battled their way to win a coveted spot in the Singapore kitchens of MasterChef judge Gordon Ramsay. First year Technical Diploma in Culinary Arts with Restaurant Management student, Koh Han Jie (standing in between Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay and Marina Bay Sands President & CEO George Tanasijevich) emerged as the winner and the first intern to be hand picked by Gordon Ramsay for his new restaurant, Bread Street Kitchen, slated to open at Marina Bay Sands in the first half of 2015.



Hotel Housekeeping Challenge 2014

Jointly organised by the Association of Singapore Housekeepers, e2i and ITE, the Hotel Housekeeping Challenge 2014 came to a successful completion on 23 July. It was a rare get-together where eager participants from 27 hotels, service apartments and 4 institutions pitted skills in the areas of glass cleaning, bed making and folding towel origami. Congratulations to the winning team of students from the Higher Nitec in Hospitality Operations. They represented ITE College West and emerged as champion in the institution category.

World Skills Singapore 2014

Nik Muhammad Amirul Hakim Bin Suraini (left) and Loh Fook Lee (centre) did College West proud by winning two Gold Medals for Cooking. This is the second time ITE had been awarded two Golds for the cooking category. The Food & Beverage Operations students also brought home the glory by winning one Gold medal (Farisha Dhamiera Bte Bohari, left) and one Silver medal (Tan Kwang Sheng, right).
